What we love

  • Flat Foot geometry — feet flat at stops, comfortable upright reach
  • Internal gear hub is low-maintenance
  • Trek-owned, so Trek dealers service it

What we'd change

  • Small-ish battery
  • Cruiser pace, not for hilly long hauls

Our verdict

By Sean Lupton · July 1, 2026 · Scored 8.4/10 against how we test

The Townie Go! 5i is the most approachable cruiser for nervous, returning, or older riders. Electra's Flat Foot geometry lets you sit with feet flat at stops while keeping a comfortable upright reach — a confidence-builder that no spec sheet captures. It's ideal for relaxed flat rides; anyone facing long hilly hauls or wanting speed and range should look elsewhere, since this is a gentle Class 1 comfort bike.

The 8.4 leans on ride quality and build-and-serviceability. The Flat Foot design and internal Nexus 5-speed hub deliver a comfortable, low-maintenance ride, and because Electra is Trek-owned, Trek dealers service it — a serviceability advantage few cruisers offer. Hydraulic discs cover brakes-and-safety. The score is held back on real-world range and motor-and-power-delivery: the 418Wh pack is smallish and the 40 Nm hub is built for cruiser pace, not climbing.

The trade-off is capability for confidence: a modest battery and gentle motor in exchange for the most reassuring bike here to get on and off. For its intended rider that's exactly right, and the dealer support seals it. If you want that comfort with a lower step and a bigger battery, the Pedego Boomerang Plus is the alternative — pricier, but with a longer range and an even more accessible frame.
