Our verdict

By Sean Lupton · June 23, 2026 · Scored 9.0/10 against how we test

The Fetch+ 2 is Trek's serious long-tail cargo bike for families ready to genuinely replace car trips and pay for the best build. A Bosch Cargo Line mid-drive, belt-and-Enviolo drivetrain, and 440 lb payload make it ideal for hauling kids and groceries with minimal upkeep. Budget-minded families should look at direct-to-consumer cargo bikes; at $4,999 this is a premium, keep-it-forever purchase.

The 9.0 is earned nearly across the board. Motor-and-power-delivery is a standout — the Cargo Line is purpose-built for load — and build-and-serviceability is exceptional thanks to the maintenance-free belt/CVT combo and Trek's dealer network. Four-piston Magura brakes anchor brakes-and-safety under load. The only real deductions are on value: the price is steep, and the single battery is standard, with dual capability costing extra to reach longer range.

The compromise is straightforward — you pay a premium and add money for a second battery to unlock full range, in exchange for a cargo bike that's low-maintenance and dealer-supported for the long haul. For families who want to stop turning wrenches, that's worth it. If your budget is tighter, the Lectric XPedition does most of the job for a fraction of the cost, giving up the belt drive, the Bosch motor, and the dealer service.
