Our verdict
By Sean Lupton · May 22, 2026 · Scored 8.5/10 against how we test
The Stretch is Pedego's family long-tail for the household that wants dealer service when the kid-hauler breaks — that's the entire pitch at $3,995. It suits parents who'd rather walk into a shop than save $1,000 going direct. Cost-focused families and anyone facing long, steep loaded climbs should look elsewhere; a hub motor and a premium price make this a comfort-and-support buy, not a performance one.
The 8.5 reflects build and serviceability strength — the long, stable wheelbase, comfortable Schwalbe Big Apple tires for passengers, and Pedego's 5-year battery/frame warranty with a real dealer network. Brakes are Tektro hydraulics, appropriate for a loaded 400-lb-payload cargo bike. It loses ground on value versus DTC cargo rivals, and on motor delivery: at this price a load-tuned mid-drive would climb better than the 500W, 70 Nm rear hub, and owner reports reflect that on grades.
The compromise is accepting a hub motor and a premium over direct competitors in exchange for local support on the bike that carries your kids. For many parents that peace of mind is the point. If you want mid-drive climbing stamina for cargo duty, the Tern HSD P9 or a Bosch Cargo Line bike is the better tool — at a higher price and without Pedego's warranty length.
