HSD P9

The HSD P9 is the compact cargo bike for the rider who wants to haul kids and groceries but can't live with the wheelbase — or the storage footprint — of a full long-tail. At $3,999 it suits apartment-dwelling families who value vertical parking. If you need to carry two big kids plus a week of shopping, the larger-payload GSD is the better tool; the HSD trades some capacity for maneuverability.

The 9.0 is led by build/serviceability and ride quality. Tern's 10-year frame warranty, Magura MT4 hydraulics, a refined Bosch Performance Line mid-drive and the space-saving vertical park are all class-leading, and owner accounts praise how normal-sized it rides. The 65 Nm motor delivers smoothly. It gives back a bit on real-world range — the 400Wh pack is modest, supporting up to 60 miles — and on value, since even the 'small' Tern isn't cheap.

The trade-off is capacity and price: you accept a smaller battery and less payload than the GSD, and a premium over DTC cargo bikes, in return for a genuinely apartment-friendly package with a Bosch mid-drive. For urban families that math usually wins. If you need maximum haul or want to spend less, the GSD S10 or a Blix Packa Genie are the two directions to go.
