Cycling rain jacket
A real cycling rain jacket has a drop-tail, pit-zips, and reflectives. A regular rain jacket has none of these and will soak you from sweat instead of rain.
Cycling jackets are cut for the bent-forward riding position (longer in back, shorter in front), have ventilation in the right places (pit-zips, back vents), and include high-vis or reflective elements for traffic. Hardshell vs softshell: hardshell (eVent, Gore-Tex) is waterproof but less breathable — best for downpours. Softshell repels light rain and breathes well — best for daily commuting in marginal weather. Most riders eventually own both.
