The XPedition is for the family that wants to try cargo biking without committing $5,500 to a GSD. It's also for the household with a tight garage and a school run that's currently a car trip. If it works for you, you'll likely upgrade to a Tern in 3-5 years. If it doesn't, you've spent $1,400 instead of $5,500 finding out.
Ride feel
Loaded with 90 lbs of kids and a backpack of groceries, the XPedition feels like exactly what it is — a heavy bike doing serious work. The 750W hub motor pulls reasonably from a stop, doesn't surge, and stays cool enough on flat ground. On sustained climbs (5%+ for more than a quarter mile), you'll feel the motor working hard and the assist tapering slightly. This is the fundamental hub-motor-under-load limitation, and Lectric can't engineer around it at this price.
Battery & range reality check
Single 624Wh battery, loaded, mixed terrain: 28-35 miles. Dual battery (1248Wh) same conditions: 60-75 miles. For school runs and grocery hauls, single is fine. For a one-car-family using this as the primary household bike, dual is the right call and turns the bike from 'works' to 'works without thinking about it.'
Build quality
The frame welds are clean. The Tektro Auriga hydraulic discs are well-spec'd for a 350-lb gross-weight bike — this is the upgrade that made the bike viable. The Shimano Altus 7-speed is basic but reliable. The kickstand is the dual-leg type that actually keeps the bike upright when loaded — small detail, huge in daily use. Lectric's customer support remains the best in the DTC e-bike space.
Value
Compare to the Blix Packa Genie at $2,199 (dual-battery option, 8-speed drivetrain, 400 lb payload). Compare to the Aventon Abound at $2,200. Compare to the Tern GSD at $5,500. The XPedition is the rational choice for most families — but if you want a real 8-speed and the ability to bolt on a second battery, the Blix is the better long-term hold.
