Our verdict

By Sean Lupton · July 29, 2026 · Scored 8.4/10 against how we test

The Nomad 1 Plus is the refined fat-tire pick, for the rider who wants a bike that feels a class above its $1,699 price. An air-sprung fork, a 440-lb payload and an IPX6 water-resistance rating make it unusually well-rounded for the category. Riders who want a true 28 mph Class 3 ceiling should note the honest limit below before choosing it over rivals.

The 8.4 reflects strong ride quality and build-and-serviceability: the air fork is a real upgrade in this class over the usual coil units, the IPX6 rating speaks to genuine weather resistance, and the big 440-lb payload adds versatility. On brakes-and-safety it scores well, with hydraulic discs and a UL 2271 certified battery. The honest weaknesses, per the listing, are a 25 mph cap rather than a true 28, and the 73-lb heft common to all fat bikes.

The trade-off you accept is top speed. Where its rivals hit a true 28 mph, this tops out at 25, so riders chasing maximum speed will feel it — but you're getting an air fork, a certified pack and better weather sealing in return. For comfort-first fat-tire riding that's an easy call. If a true Class 3 ceiling matters more than the fork, the Velowave Ranger 2.0 is the cheaper, faster alternative — with a coil fork and a less refined ride.
