Handlebar / bar-end mirror

Even with radar, a glance in the mirror is the fastest way to check traffic. $20 of insurance.

Handlebar / bar-end mirror

Bar-end mirrors clamp into the open end of a flat handlebar and are the most stable, vibration-resistant option. Eyeglass-mount and helmet-mount mirrors are options for drop-bar riders. Test before you commit — what works for you is personal.

Convex mirrors give a wider field of view but distort distances. Flat mirrors are more accurate but show less. Most riders prefer convex for the wider awareness.

Where to buy

Two paths — match your spend to the bike. Quality picks last longer and protect resale; affordable picks get you riding safely today.

Pro tips from our test team

  • Adjust it so your shoulder is just visible at the inside edge — that's your reference frame.
  • Bar-end mirrors are the most stable. Stem and clamp mirrors buzz on rough roads.
  • Use it as a confirmation, not a replacement for a head check — but at 28 mph, a glance saves a full shoulder check.
